Questions
Frequently asked by case managers
How fast can a client move in?
When a bed is open and funding is confirmed, move-in can happen within days. Rooms are furnished and utilities are already on.
How do shared bedrooms work? Do you have private rooms?
Each bedroom is shared by two residents, and each resident has their own bed and storage. Every resident also gets TV access, their own Netflix account, and Bluetooth headphones, so one person can watch or listen while the other rests. For clients who need their own space, Chappell Road has a private room with a separate entrance, private bathroom, and kitchenette, and Chicamauga Avenue has two private bedrooms.
Is food included?
Food is not included in the monthly price. Residents buy groceries with their own SNAP benefits, and we help each resident place their own weekly order.
Do you provide medical or personal care?
Afford America is a non-clinical housing provider. We do not provide medical care, nursing, personal care, or medication administration. Residents are welcome to use visiting home health aides, mobile care teams, and outpatient providers of their choosing.
Can home health or mobile care teams visit?
Yes. We work alongside visiting home health aides, mobile care teams, ACT teams, and outpatient providers chosen by the resident.
How does the medication dispenser work?
Residents can rent an automated dispenser that reminds them and releases their own doses on schedule. Residents remain responsible for their medications; staff do not handle or administer them.
How is rent paid?
The full monthly package must be covered before move-in, by a housing voucher, benefits, or a combination of sources. We coordinate directly with HUD-VASH, GHVP, and representative payees.
Can we set up a standing referral agreement?
Yes. We welcome direct referral agreements with VA, ADRC, DBHDD, and hospital social work teams, including priority notice when beds open.
